Our Mission
The Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans (CAGNO) has updated our name to the Cancer Association of Louisiana (CALA) to align with our mission to support local cancer patients in Louisiana by assisting with necessities crucial to their healing and improving their quality of life. Since 1959, CAGNO, and now CALA, has worked to reduce the burden of cancer for patients and their families. A diagnosis of cancer can be costly and without CALA, these services must be met by family or friends or not met at all. Providing support empowers patients to continue on their path to recovery.
About Us
The Cancer Association of Louisiana (formerly CAGNO), assists patients throughout the state of Louisiana with services essential to their cancer care. Our goal is to reduce the barriers that patients feel while undergoing treatment by providing services such as nutritional support, gas cards, farmer’s market vouchers, medical supplies, wigs and prothesis and additional supplies as available.
The Cancer Association of Louisiana strives to “Promote cancer survivorship and reduce health disparities through local programs of Education, Outreach and Patient Services.”
In 2023, CALA helped 1411 patients across 48 parishes, that’s a 23% increase over 2022.
